£200 Million Indoor Water Park Set for Bicester Development

A new indoor water park and entertainment complex, with an investment of £200 million, is set to be constructed on a former golf course in Bicester, Oxfordshire. Located less than a two-hour drive from Cambridge, this ambitious project aims to enhance family leisure options in the region.
The initiative is spearheaded by Great Wolf Lodge, a company renowned in North America for its family-oriented indoor water park resorts. The selection of Bicester for this venture is attributed to its strategic location, which provides easy access to London and connects to major urban centres and the motorway network.
Project Details and Employment Opportunities
Great Wolf Lodge has committed to creating approximately 600 jobs once the facility is operational, alongside an additional 1,000 jobs during the construction phase. The development promises to offer a unique family resort experience, featuring a variety of attractions, entertainment options, and dining facilities all under one roof.
According to a statement from Great Wolf Lodge, “This represents the beginning of a £200 million investment by Great Wolf Resorts into the local community and economy.” The company also highlighted the significance of the project as its first indoor water park resort outside North America, following the successful launch of its first resort in Wisconsin Dells in 1997.
The local council has granted planning permission for the project. While specific construction timelines are yet to be announced, the facility is expected to be fully operational by 2030.
Community Impact and Future Prospects
The introduction of this water park is anticipated to have a positive impact on the local economy, not only through job creation but also by attracting tourism to the area. Great Wolf Lodge aims to provide families with an easy and enjoyable getaway, enhancing the leisure options available in the vicinity.
As the project progresses, further details on the attractions and amenities offered at the Bicester location are expected to emerge. The local community can look forward to the potential economic benefits and increased family entertainment choices as the development unfolds.
