£200 Million Water Park to Transform Bicester’s Entertainment Scene

A major development is underway in Bicester, Oxfordshire, where a £200 million indoor water park and entertainment complex is set to be constructed. The facility will be located on a former golf course, making it an attractive destination for families from Cambridge and beyond, as it is less than two hours’ drive from the city.
The project is led by Great Wolf Lodge, a company known for its family-oriented indoor waterpark resorts in North America. The choice of Bicester is strategic, given its proximity to London and significant urban centres, along with easy access to the motorway network. This location aims to attract visitors from across the region, enhancing the local tourism landscape.
Great Wolf Lodge has outlined its commitment to investing in the local economy, promising the creation of approximately 600 jobs once the facility is operational. Additionally, the construction phase is expected to generate around 1,000 jobs, providing a significant boost to the community.
According to the company’s website, “North America’s largest owner, operator and developer of family-oriented indoor waterpark resorts,” Great Wolf Lodge opened its first resort in Wisconsin Dells in 1997. The Bicester site will mark the company’s first venture into Europe. It promises a unique family resort experience, featuring a diverse range of attractions, entertainment options, and dining facilities all housed under one roof.
The local council has approved the planning permissions, paving the way for this ambitious project. While specific construction dates have yet to be announced, the site is anticipated to be fully operational by 2030. This timeline indicates a long-term investment in the community, which will not only provide recreational opportunities but also stimulate economic growth in the area.
As the project evolves, Great Wolf Lodge is poised to redefine family entertainment in the region, offering a fun-filled getaway that aims to cater to families seeking leisure and relaxation.
