£200 Million Indoor Water Park Planned Near Cambridge

A new indoor water park and entertainment complex, valued at £200 million, is set to be constructed on a former golf course in Bicester, Oxfordshire. Located less than two hours’ drive from Cambridge, the project aims to provide a family-friendly resort experience with a variety of attractions, dining options, and entertainment facilities.
Great Wolf Lodge, the company spearheading the development, operates family-oriented indoor waterpark resorts across North America. This will mark the company’s first venture into Europe. The choice of Bicester as the site is largely attributed to its strategic location, offering convenient access to London and major urban centres, as well as proximity to the motorway network.
The development is expected to generate approximately 600 permanent jobs for local residents once operational. Additionally, during the construction phase, the project will create around 1,000 jobs, significantly boosting local employment opportunities.
According to Great Wolf Lodge, the facility will feature an extensive range of attractions designed to appeal to families. The resort aims to create a unique getaway, combining leisure and entertainment under one roof. The company has highlighted the importance of this investment in the local community and economy, stating that it represents a significant commitment to the region.
Following the approval of planning permission by the local council, Great Wolf Lodge has completed the acquisition of the property where the indoor water park will be developed. While no specific dates have been announced for the start of construction, the venue is anticipated to be fully operational by 2030.
The project is expected to enhance the local tourism sector, drawing visitors from nearby urban areas and beyond. As the development progresses, it will offer families an accessible and enjoyable destination for leisure activities.
Great Wolf Lodge’s entry into the European market reflects a growing trend in the leisure industry, where demand for indoor entertainment facilities is on the rise. The combination of water parks and resort amenities has proven successful in North America, and the company is optimistic about replicating this success in the UK.
This ambitious investment not only adds to the leisure landscape of Oxfordshire but also exemplifies the potential for growth in the sector, particularly in areas well-connected to major cities. The anticipated water park in Bicester is set to become a landmark destination for families seeking fun and adventure in a convenient location.
