Formula 1 rookie Oliver Bearman has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the Las Vegas street circuit, calling it the “least enjoyable” track he has ever driven. The Haas driver made these comments following his first experience on the circuit during practice sessions held on Thursday, November 16, 2023. Bearman described the conditions as challenging, particularly due to the cold evening temperatures that impacted grip levels.

“This is the least enjoyable street track I’ve driven,” Bearman told Sky Sports F1 after the second practice session (FP2). “Normally they’re really, really fun and great. This one is really, really low grip, which is not a great combination when you have the walls very close.” He highlighted the track’s high-speed nature as potentially dangerous, noting that while racing down the famous Strip in Las Vegas is a thrilling experience, the overall track conditions left much to be desired.

The practice sessions were complicated further by light rain, which made the already tricky conditions even more challenging for the drivers. Bearman remarked on his initial laps during the first practice session (FP1), recalling, “Honestly, those first few laps I did in FP1 — of course this is a new track for me — I was shocked by how low the grip was. It’s sketchy out there.”

The second practice session faced interruptions due to a loose drain cover, reminiscent of a similar incident that marred the inaugural event in 2023. During that race, a drain cover caused significant damage to the Ferrari of Carlos Sainz, disrupting the early moments of the session.

The Las Vegas Grand Prix stands out on the Formula 1 calendar as the only race where the sport itself serves as both host and promoter. This unique arrangement allows Formula 1 to invest significantly in the event, including the construction of state-of-the-art facilities for the pit and paddock complex. Despite the challenges, the Las Vegas circuit offers a spectacular backdrop for racing, drawing attention to the potential for future improvements as the sport continues to develop its presence in the United States.

As Bearman and his fellow competitors prepare for the main event, his candid assessment highlights the ongoing need for adjustments to enhance safety and driving enjoyment on this ambitious track.
