Independent Brand Launches Affordable Take on Iconic Cartier Crash
The independent streetwear brand Open Bar Funeral has announced the launch of its inaugural timepiece, the “Crashio,” on November 28. This new watch presents an affordable alternative to the highly sought-after Cartier Crash, which is known for its unique design and high auction prices, often reaching six figures. With its whimsical aesthetic reminiscent of Salvador Dali’s art, the Cartier Crash has garnered a significant following among collectors.
The Crashio combines the distinctive curves of the Cartier Crash with the functionality of digital watches, particularly those popularized by Casio. The watch features a 27×46.5mm resin case and a stainless steel Jubilee-style bracelet, ensuring a contemporary look. Its digital face includes a 12/24 date format, an auto-calendar, a backlit display, and both daily and hourly alarm capabilities. Notably, the display is designed to warp in harmony with the shape of the case, enhancing its artistic appeal.
Open Bar Funeral, founded by Mark Nguyen, is making a bold entry into the watch market. The brand is known for its boxy sizing and relaxed fits in streetwear. This creative direction reflects a desire to innovate within the crowded watch space, particularly following the recent high-profile reveals at Dubai Watch Week.
The Crashio is designed to be both stylish and practical, boasting an accuracy of +30 seconds per month and a battery life of seven years thanks to its CR2016 battery. Retailing at just $128, it positions itself as an attractive option for watch enthusiasts looking for a unique style without the steep price tag typically associated with luxury watches.
The approach taken by Open Bar Funeral is refreshingly straightforward. By drawing inspiration from established influences like Cartier and the current trend surrounding the Crash, they aim to create a timepiece that resonates with a diverse audience. The combination of affordability and artistic design is expected to drive quick sales, making it a must-have for collectors and casual wearers alike.
As the launch date approaches, watch enthusiasts are advised to mark their calendars. The Crashio could quickly become a standout piece in anyone’s collection, offering a playful nod to luxury without the prohibitive cost.
