Luxair Welcomes First Embraer E195-E2 Jet, Marks Fleet Upgrade
European airline Luxair has marked a significant milestone with the delivery of its first Embraer E195-E2 aircraft. This addition is a key component of the airline’s fleet modernization strategy, aimed at enhancing its service offerings across Europe. The new aircraft will showcase a distinctive Luxair livery that combines modern design elements while celebrating Luxembourg’s national identity.
Configured with 136 seats in a two-by-two layout, the E195-E2 promises to enhance passenger comfort. Each seat offers a generous 30-inch pitch, eliminating middle seats to provide more personal space. The cabin design is intended to create a welcoming environment, with noise levels reduced by up to 35%. Additionally, every seat features a USB-C power outlet, enabling passengers to charge their devices during flights.
Expanding the Fleet
Luxair initially placed a firm order for four E195-E2 jets in 2023 and expanded this commitment last December to include two additional aircraft, bringing the total to six. This strategic move is designed to elevate the airline’s operational capabilities. The Chief Executive Officer of Luxair, Gilles Feith, emphasized the significance of this arrival, stating: “The arrival of this first Embraer E195-E2 is a decisive step into Luxair’s future, strengthening our competitiveness, reducing our environmental impact, and enhancing the travel experience for our passengers.”
The aircraft is expected to enter commercial service in 2026, underscoring Luxair’s dedication to investing in its future. The delivery comes at a time when connectivity is crucial for Luxembourg, a small nation bordered by Belgium, France, and Germany. From its hub at Luxembourg Findel Airport, Luxair remains the largest carrier by the number of destinations served, with popular routes to cities like Lisbon, Frankfurt, Munich, Amsterdam, and London.
Journey of the E195-E2
The aircraft, registered as LX-LEA, embarked on its delivery flight on November 28, 2023. It took off from São José dos Campos-Professor Urbano Ernesto Stumpf International Airport in Brazil at 06:36, completing a two-hour and 32-minute journey to Recife/Guararapes–Gilberto Freyre International Airport, arriving at 09:08. After refueling, the plane crossed the Atlantic, departing Recife at 11:05 and landing at Gran Canaria Airport at 19:29 following a five-hour and 24-minute flight.
The aircraft remained in the Canary Islands overnight for crew rest. The following morning, it departed for Luxembourg at 09:13, arriving at Luxembourg Findel Airport at 14:02. Upon its arrival, the aircraft was welcomed with a traditional water salute and attended an event at the Luxair Maintenance Hangar, attended by representatives from the government, local institutions, and the aviation community.
Luxair, the flag carrier of Luxembourg, operates scheduled services across Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and the Mediterranean. Founded in March 1962, the airline has integrated the Lufthansa Group’s Miles & More frequent flyer program into its operations. According to data from ch-aviation, the carrier’s fleet includes Boeing 737-700, 737-800, 737 MAX 8, De Havilland Canada Dash 8-400, alongside the newly introduced Embraer E195-E2.
The introduction of the E195-E2 marks a new chapter for Luxair, as the airline seeks to redefine air travel standards, emphasizing passenger comfort and modern service.
