BBC Radio Wales Presenter Lynda Shahwan Dies at 53 in Tragic Crash

Lynda Shahwan, a prominent producer and presenter at BBC Radio Wales, has tragically passed away at the age of 53 following a car accident while on holiday in Canada. Known for her engaging work on the popular podcast “Terry Walton’s Plotcast,” Shahwan’s sudden death has left colleagues and friends deeply saddened.

Shahwan was a dedicated member of BBC Radio Wales for over 25 years. She was affectionately known to listeners as “The Lily from Caerphilly,” a nickname bestowed upon her by fellow presenter Roy Noble. Throughout her career, she made significant contributions across various programs, showcasing her versatility and passion for broadcasting.
Her creative talent shone through in “Plotcast,” where she co-hosted alongside Terry Walton. The podcast focused on allotment living, sharing insights and knowledge about gardening in a fun and informative manner. Walton expressed his grief, stating, “We pass our sympathies on to Lynda’s husband Sharif, their two sons and all of the family on the tragic and sudden taking of Lynda from us far too soon.” He emphasized the joy and fulfillment he experienced while working alongside her, highlighting their strong friendship.

Carolyn Hitt, Head of Radio Wales, paid tribute to Shahwan, recalling her impactful presence since she joined the station in 1999. Hitt noted, “Lynda made a brilliant impact on the station, on and off air, working across almost all of our output.” Her recent return to the microphone, co-presenting “Plotcast,” exemplified her creative spirit.
The emotional toll of her passing is felt throughout the station. Hitt remarked, “We are all devastated at Radio Wales at the sudden loss of our much-loved colleague and friend.” Noble echoed these sentiments, stating, “Her legacy will be always, always remembered.” The heartfelt messages from colleagues demonstrate the profound respect and affection held for Shahwan.
Journalist Sue Charles also expressed her sorrow on social media, describing Shahwan as “one of the loveliest, most talented people I’ve ever worked with.” Charles extended her thoughts to Shahwan’s family, emphasizing the personal loss felt by many in the BBC Wales community.
