Mason Mount Discusses Manchester United’s Pre-Season Goals

Mason Mount has shared insights into Manchester United’s pre-season preparations as the team aims to improve on last season’s disappointing performance. United finished in 15th place in the Premier League and suffered a defeat in the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur. As Ruben Amorim embarks on his first full season as the club’s head coach, the team is focused on making significant strides moving forward.
Mount, who spent a considerable part of last season sidelined due to injury, is currently training with the squad in the United States. Ahead of United’s friendly match against West Ham on July 8, 2023, he discussed the preparations being undertaken by Amorim and the coaching staff. Mount emphasized the importance of a fresh approach and the necessity to establish new standards as they prepare for the upcoming season.
New Season, New Goals
In an interview with the Mail Online, Mount clarified that the team has not heavily focused on analyzing last season. “We looked at a few areas that we can improve on, but this is a new season,” he stated. “It’s like wiping the slate clean. Coming into this season with a different kind of attitude and a feeling about it and we’re ready to go.”
Mount highlighted that from the very start of pre-season, the emphasis has been on maintaining high standards and paying attention to details both on and off the pitch. Amorim’s training approach includes a strong focus on small improvements, which Mount believes are crucial for the team’s success.
“He [Amorim] is massive on details, the small improvements on the pitch or off the pitch, and he’s been really, really big on that,” Mount explained. “As a group, we know what we need to do in those areas because we need to be performing to the best of our ability.”
Focusing on Improvement
The midfielder underscored the importance of setting new goals for the season, especially in light of last season’s shortcomings. He noted that attention to detail will be vital, particularly in games where the team struggled to defend effectively and create scoring opportunities.
Mount’s insights suggest that under Amorim’s leadership, Manchester United is committed to a culture of continuous improvement. The focus not only aims to enhance individual performances but also to foster a cohesive team dynamic that can lead to greater achievements in the upcoming season.
As the pre-season progresses, fans will be watching closely to see how these adjustments and new approaches translate into on-field performance. The upcoming match against West Ham will serve as an early test of United’s preparations and ambitions for the new campaign.
