Iconic London Flat from Agatha Christie Series Auctioned for £190K

An iconic flat featured in the beloved British television series based on Agatha Christie’s detective Hercule Poirot is currently up for auction, starting at just £190,000. Located on the third floor of the remarkable Art Deco building known as Florin Court, this studio flat has become a point of interest for fans of the show and architecture enthusiasts alike.
Constructed in 1936, Florin Court is situated in the heart of London, specifically on Charterhouse Square, and boasts a distinctive curved design that has made it a recognizable landmark. The building, which is Grade II-listed, features nine floors and a total of 120 flats. Residents can enjoy various amenities including a swimming pool, sauna, gym, and communal lounge, all of which were considered luxurious additions when the building was completed.
The flat itself measures just 209 sq ft (approximately 19.4 sq m), making it a compact studio space. It includes a combined bedroom and living area, a kitchenette, and a separate bathroom. While its size is smaller than the current minimum requirements for newly built single-person homes, the prime location in central London provides easy access to major transport links, including the Elizabeth line and the Barbican and Farringdon underground stations.
Hercule Poirot, portrayed by David Suchet from 1989 to 2013, made Florin Court famous as the setting for his fictional residence, Whitehaven Mansions. The flat is particularly notable as it was featured in episodes including “The Third Floor Flat,” the very first episode of the series. The building’s striking architecture and historical significance have made it an attractive filming location, not only for Poirot but also for other productions, including a spin-off featuring the character Pennywise in 2019.
The auction for this flat is being conducted by Auction House, with viewings having taken place on August 1 and August 5. The property is currently held under a 999-year lease that began on April 1, 2017, leaving approximately 991 years remaining. It is also noted to have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of C.
The allure of this flat lies not only in its connection to a beloved television show but also in its architectural charm and central location. Fans of Agatha Christie and prospective buyers alike have the unique opportunity to own a piece of television history, making this auction a remarkable event in the London property market.
