Ikea has confirmed the closure of its Order and Collection store in Wellington Circle, Aberdeen, a significant move for the Swedish furniture retailer. The store, which opened in May 2016, has served customers in the region for nearly a decade, becoming the first of its kind in northern Scotland.

The Order and Collection format is designed to provide a more compact shopping experience compared to traditional Ikea outlets. According to the company, these locations offer a selection of products that customers can either take home immediately or have delivered directly to their homes. The Aberdeen store allowed residents in the surrounding areas to access Ikea’s popular Scandinavian designs without the need to travel to larger cities such as Edinburgh or Glasgow.

In an official statement, Ikea announced, “We can confirm that we’ve taken the decision to close our Order and Collection Point in Aberdeen.” The company emphasized its ongoing commitment to the city, stating, “We’re currently exploring new locations in the area.” While the exact date of the store closure has not been disclosed, Ikea is known to have a robust presence in Scotland, with existing stores in Edinburgh and Glasgow. A new Plan and Order Point is also scheduled to open in Dundee soon.

The decision to close the Aberdeen location has raised questions among local customers, but Ikea has not provided specific details regarding the reasons behind the closure. Currently, there are 22 Ikea stores across the UK, in addition to various pick-up points that cater to the diverse needs of its customer base.

As the company navigates this transition, it remains to be seen how the potential for new locations will impact its service and accessibility in the region. The closure marks a notable change for customers who have relied on the Aberdeen store for their home furnishing needs over the past several years.
