Hen Ogledd Unveils New Album ‘DISCOMBOBULATED’ for February Release
Welsh band Hen Ogledd has announced the release of their new album titled DISCOMBOBULATED, set to launch on February 20, 2024. The quartet, consisting of Dawn Bothwell, Rhodri Davies, Richard Dawson, and Sally Pilkington, aims to create a unique sound that transcends traditional band dynamics.
Recording sessions for DISCOMBOBULATED took place at Blank Studios in Newcastle, under the guidance of producer Sam Grant. The band, whose name translates from Welsh as “The Old North,” embodies a collaborative spirit, fusing diverse artistic backgrounds into a cohesive musical experience. “There’s something to Hen Ogledd that’s really not like a normal band,” says Richard Dawson. “It’s something… else.”
New single “Scales will fall” provides a glimpse into the album’s eclectic sound. The track blends elements of folk, post-punk, and post-rock, defying easy categorization. Its intricate composition references the historic Durham Miner’s Gala before transforming into a horn-driven rhythm. “Maybe Hen Ogledd is more like a family than a band,” reflects Sally Pilkington, highlighting the inclusion of children’s voices in their music as a distinctive feature.
Tracklist and Anticipation
The album will feature eight tracks, including:
1. Nell’s prologue
2. Scales will fall
3. Dead in a post-truth world
4. Clara
5. End of the rhythm
6. Amser a ddengys
7. Clear pools
8. Land of the dead

The band’s innovative approach, coupled with their familial bond, sets them apart in the contemporary music landscape. Fans can preview the captivating “Scales will fall” ahead of the album’s release.
