Nigerian Star Tems Unveils New EP ‘Love Is A Kingdom’

Nigerian singer-songwriter Tems has launched her latest project, a seven-track EP titled Love Is A Kingdom, released on October 20, 2023, through Since ‘93/RCA Records. The project showcases Tems’ versatility, featuring a mix of Afrobeats and RnB influences. This release signifies her return to solo music after a year of high-profile collaborations and performances.

The EP is a deep exploration of love, delving into its many facets, including power, pain, surrender, and self-discovery. Tems took the lead in production, with contributions from her regular collaborators GuiltyBeatz, AOD, and LONDON. The opening track, First, serves as a self-love anthem, setting the tone for the themes of empowerment and introspection that run throughout the project.

Exploring Love Through Music

The EP’s second track, I’m Not Sure, presents a poignant reflection on romantic indecision, featuring lilting melodies and atmospheric instrumentation. On Mine, Tems asserts her confidence as a lover, captivating her audience with her powerful vocals and lyrical charm. The closing track, Is There A Reason, co-produced with V-Ron, offers a moment of heart-wrenching introspection, highlighted by stripped-back acoustics that allow her emotional delivery to shine.

Love Is A Kingdom follows Tems’ debut album, Born In The Wild, which was released in June 2024. Despite a year without new solo music, Tems has maintained a significant presence in the music industry. She headlined the first-ever FIFA Club World Cup halftime show alongside J Balvin and Doja Cat, and collaborated with Justin Bieber on his track SWAG II. Additionally, she supported Coldplay during their concert at Wembley Stadium and initiated a women-in-music program that is now being implemented across Nigeria and Kenya.
