Colleagues Honor Bobbie Scully, Esteemed Law Reports Editor
Barbara “Bobbie” Scully, the editor of the Times Law Reports for 14 years, passed away unexpectedly two weeks ago at the age of 62. Her colleagues and peers in the legal community have expressed deep sadness at her sudden loss, highlighting her significant contributions to legal journalism.
Scully studied law at Keele University and was called to the Bar at Middle Temple in 1984. She began her career in legal reporting with the Incorporated Council of Law Reporting in London, a prestigious organization that has served the courts since its establishment in 1865. Her early work as a law reporter in the Queen’s Bench division of the High Court laid the foundation for a distinguished career.

In 1987, Scully was appointed as a reporter for the appellate committee of the House of Lords, which transformed into the Supreme Court in 2009. She also contributed her expertise to the reporting of the judicial committee of the Privy Council. In 2011, Scully succeeded Iain Sutherland as the editor of the Times Law Reports. She had been a regular contributor to this section for many years prior to her appointment, ensuring that the publication maintained its high standards of accuracy and legal insight.
