Coventry’s Renowned Dhillon’s Plaice Closes After 6.5 Years
Dhillon’s Plaice, a popular fish and chip shop in Coventry, has announced its unexpected closure effective today, November 20, 2023. The establishment, located on Woodway Lane, has been a beloved fixture in the Walsgrave community for almost seven years, renowned for its high-quality offerings and numerous accolades.
Closure Announcement and Community Impact
In a heartfelt message shared via social media, the family behind Dhillon’s Plaice expressed gratitude for their loyal customers. The post stated, “After much thought and consideration, we have made the decision to close Dhillons Plaice Walsgrave today.” The closure is attributed to a shift in focus towards family commitments and new business opportunities.
Throughout its years of operation, Dhillon’s Plaice has garnered several prestigious awards, including the 2023 Gold Seal for Fish and Chips from the Good Food Awards, which it proudly displays within the shop. This recognition has solidified its reputation as a top choice for fish and chips in the area.
The owners conveyed their appreciation to the community, noting, “Serving the Walsgrave community has been a true pleasure, and we are grateful for every single customer who has walked through our doors over the last six and a half years.” They emphasized the warmth and loyalty shown by their customers, which has made their experience memorable.
Future of the Dhillon Brand
While the Woodway Lane location will no longer operate, it has been reported that the Dhillon family will continue to run their other shop on Avon Street in Wyken. Although this location is currently closed for the week, it is expected to reopen in the near future, allowing the family to maintain a presence in the local fish and chip scene.
As the festive season approaches, the Dhillon family encourages the Walsgrave community to enjoy time with loved ones. They remarked, “Though this chapter is coming to an end, we will always remember the opportunities and good luck Dhillons Plaice Walsgrave has brought us.” The family looks forward to new beginnings while cherishing the memories created during their time in Walsgrave.
For many in Coventry, the closure of Dhillon’s Plaice marks the end of an era, but the legacy of excellent fish and chips will continue in the hearts of the community.
