Young Carers Lead Charge for Wrexham’s 2026 Celebration Event
Young carers in Wrexham are actively participating in the planning of a new celebration event scheduled for January 2026. This initiative involves collaboration with Done Together CIC, a social enterprise dedicated to assisting businesses in achieving their goals, alongside Credu, an organization that supports both young and adult carers. The upcoming event, themed ‘Stars’, will take place at Brymbo Sports Club and feature performances from young carers who are learning musical instruments through Wrexham Sounds.
The event aims to celebrate the significant contributions of young carers and their allies in the community. According to Sally Duckers, the team leader at Credu WCD, “We are celebrating the incredible contributions of young carers and young carer allies from Wrexham.” As the nomination period draws to a close, the enthusiasm surrounding the event is palpable, with anticipation for recognizing the remarkable, kind-hearted efforts of individual young carers and their supporters.
In addition to performances, young carers are collaborating with artist Jamila Thomas from Arts Connection to create star-themed decorations and inspirational quotes. These artistic contributions are designed to infuse the event space with positivity. Leanne Jeffreys, an outreach worker at Credu, expressed excitement about the event, stating, “The young carers come up with brilliant ideas and are so grateful for the support friends, family, and other professionals have shown them. I am really looking forward to the evening and giving some of these amazing young people a chance to shine.”
The project has secured funding of £16,399 from the UK Government, allocated through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. This initiative is further supported by local organizations such as Cadwyn Clwyd, AVOW, and Wrexham County Council.
For more information on how to support young carers, Credu offers resources across Wrexham, Conwy, and Denbighshire. This celebration event not only highlights the talents of young carers but also emphasizes their invaluable role in the community, fostering a sense of recognition and gratitude.
