Rosie O’Donnell’s Daughter Expresses Anger at Trump for Move
Rosie O’Donnell has revealed that her daughter, who is autistic, is expressing frustration towards former President Donald Trump for their family’s relocation to Ireland. The comedian and actress, known for her outspoken liberal views, moved to Ireland in January 2025, shortly before Trump’s inauguration after his election victory over former Vice President Kamala Harris.
In a recent appearance on the Jim Acosta Show, O’Donnell shared her daughter’s reaction, stating, “My daughter is now saying, ‘Damn him. Damn Trump,’ and smashing her hand on the table.” O’Donnell emphasized her child’s belief that Trump “made us move in order for our own safety,” further adding that he is “destroying the country.”
The 63-year-old O’Donnell expressed concern about how her political views might affect her children, stating, “I don’t want to give my defiance of Trump to my child.” She mentioned her desire to protect her youngest child, Clay, who is non-binary and has autism, from the political turmoil surrounding them.
O’Donnell’s move has attracted significant attention on social media, with some users criticizing her decision to leave the United States. One user on X remarked, “Rosie can’t even take responsibility for her own decision to move to Ireland.” Another user called her comments “bs” and suggested she should accept accountability for her choices as a parent.
Despite the backlash, O’Donnell has indicated that her life in Ireland has been positive, noting, “It’s been pretty wonderful. People are so loving and so kind, so welcoming.” She is currently pursuing Irish citizenship through descent, expressing gratitude for her new surroundings while also acknowledging that she misses aspects of life in the United States.
Trump’s comments regarding O’Donnell have also been contentious. In September, he suggested on Truth Social that he was considering revoking her US citizenship, declaring, “She is not a Great American and is, in my opinion, incapable of being so.” This followed his previous remarks in July, where he labeled her a “Threat to Humanity.”
O’Donnell has long been a vocal critic of Trump, claiming he has targeted her for over two decades. In a separate appearance on the Late Late Show in Ireland, she criticized the way Trump treated Irish Taoiseach Micheál Martin during a visit to the White House, stating that the US president “sort of uses me as a punchline” whenever he feels the need.
As the political landscape continues to shift, O’Donnell remains firm in her decision to reside in Ireland with her children, hoping to create a safe and nurturing environment for them amidst the ongoing turbulence of US politics.
