Glasgow Tops List as Best UK City for Family Living
Glasgow has been identified as the best city in the UK for families, according to a study conducted by Kaybridge Residential Estate Agents. The study evaluated 21 cities across the UK, with Glasgow, along with Aberdeen and Edinburgh, ranking among the top five. The analysis considered several factors, including average house prices, access to schools, healthcare quality, childcare costs, and crime rates.
The results highlight Glasgow’s strong appeal for families, earning it a perfect score in the assessment. Kevin Barzegar, a representative of Kaybridge, noted that the city combines affordability with quality of life. He stated, “Glasgow proves that you don’t need to spend a fortune to give your family a great quality of life. Affordable housing combined with good schools, safe streets, and clean air makes it an attractive option for families planning their next move.”
Comparative Insights from the Study
In stark contrast, London was positioned at the bottom of the rankings, receiving an overall score of 0. The study revealed that house prices in London are more than three times higher than those in Glasgow. The three Scottish cities also excelled in terms of green space, sharing the highest Green Space Index of 1.18, which measures access to parks and outdoor areas. This is significantly better than the figures for London, where access to green spaces is notably lower.
Air quality further differentiates Glasgow from other cities in the study. Glasgow boasts the cleanest air among the top ten cities, with an air quality index of only 16. This figure is more than four times better than that of Aberdeen, the second-best city in this regard. Additionally, childcare costs in Glasgow are the lowest among the three Scottish cities, and the crime rate is comparatively lower than in many English cities, enhancing its family-friendly reputation.
Healthcare and Quality of Life
Healthcare access in Glasgow also stands out, as the city achieved the highest healthcare index among the Scottish cities evaluated, scoring 78.7. This indicates strong access to medical services, an essential factor for families considering relocation.
The findings from this study underscore Glasgow’s appeal as a family-friendly city, where quality of life is accessible without the financial burden often associated with urban living. As families continue to search for environments that provide safety, education, and health services, Glasgow’s reputation is likely to grow, positioning it as a preferred choice for family living in the UK.
