Alessia Russo Signs Long-Term Deal with Arsenal Ahead of WSL Season

Alessia Russo has signed a new long-term contract with Arsenal, solidifying her commitment to the club ahead of the new Women’s Super League (WSL) season. The announcement comes after a remarkable period for the 26-year-old striker, who has significantly contributed to both her club and national team’s successes.
In May, Russo played a pivotal role as Arsenal triumphed in the Champions League, defeating seasoned competitors in Lisbon. Following that victory, she helped the England national team retain their European Championship title under the guidance of head coach Sarina Wiegman. Her individual accolades have also been impressive; she was named the Football Writers’ Player of the Year and earned spots in both the PFA and Champions League Teams of the Year. Additionally, Russo received a nomination for the prestigious 2025 Ballon d’Or.
Russo’s Commitment to Arsenal
“I feel empowered with this badge on my chest,” Russo stated in a press release. “Arsenal feels like home. This is such a special club, and it has felt that way to me from the moment I joined two years ago. Playing for Arsenal is an honour and has pushed me to develop and grow as a player.”
Since joining Arsenal in July 2023, Russo has scored an impressive 36 goals in 72 appearances. She shared the WSL Golden Boot in the 2024-25 season, netting 12 goals. Russo expressed excitement for the upcoming season, emphasizing her hunger for more success, a sentiment echoed by her teammates and supporters.
Coach’s Praise and Upcoming Challenges
Arsenal’s head coach highlighted Russo’s importance to the team. “Alessia is a really important part of our group, and I’m so pleased that she has signed a new deal here,” the coach remarked. “As a striker, Alessia’s goals often take the spotlight, but she brings so much more to our group. She’s a selfless player, working hard for the team, and she contributes significantly to our team culture.”
Arsenal will kick off their WSL campaign at home against the London City Lionesses on Saturday, where Russo will aim to build on her impressive track record and lead her team to further successes in the league. With a renewed commitment to the club, Russo is eager to continue her journey with Arsenal, striving for victory alongside her teammates and passionate supporters.
