Chris Sutton Predicts Man United Triumph Over Everton in Key Clash
Manchester United will face Everton on November 24, 2023, in a highly anticipated match at Old Trafford. The encounter marks nearly 12 years since Everton last secured a victory at this iconic venue, with their last win occurring in February 2012, when Bryan Oviedo’s goal handed United a defeat under David Moyes.
Despite this long winless streak, there is a sense of optimism within the Everton camp. Recent performances, including a convincing 2-0 victory against Fulham, have bolstered confidence. Goals from Michael Keane and Idrissa Gueye underscored their potential as they prepare for the challenge posed by Manchester United, who were held to a 2-2 draw against Tottenham prior to the international break.
### Sutton’s Prediction for the Match
Chris Sutton, a former Norwich City striker and current sports commentator, has weighed in on the upcoming clash. He predicts that Manchester United will come out on top, stating in his column for BBC Sport that he believes Everton will struggle to contain the hosts, despite the return of Moyes to Old Trafford.
Sutton has forecast a narrow 1-0 victory for Manchester United, emphasizing that while Everton’s resilience is commendable, he doubts their ability to make a significant impact in front of goal. “If Everton had a goalscoring number nine, then the outcome would be more in doubt, but I don’t see them causing United problems at the other end of the pitch, either,” Sutton remarked.
He added, “I am keeping Beto in my fantasy team, because you can guarantee that if I took him out, he would start this game and score. But with Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, United carry far more of a threat.”
### Everton’s Counterattack Strategy
David Moyes will be eager to exploit any weaknesses in Manchester United’s defense. Although United ranks joint-fourth in terms of goals scored in the Premier League, they are seventh-worst in expected goals conceded, with a figure of 16.83. This statistic highlights potential vulnerabilities that Everton could exploit through counterattacks.
Iliman Ndiaye, a key player for Everton, may find opportunities to challenge United’s defense, particularly against Luke Shaw and Patrick Dorgu down the right flank. Ndiaye’s ability to create chances, combined with Jack Grealish’s playmaking skills on the opposite side, could prove crucial. If they effectively utilize their strengths in transition, Everton could indeed pose a significant threat.
The match on November 24 promises to be pivotal for both teams, as Everton seeks to end a lengthy winless streak at Old Trafford and Manchester United aims to solidify their standing in the league. With both sides having their respective strengths and weaknesses, the outcome remains uncertain, but Sutton’s prediction leans heavily in favor of the home team.
