Everton’s Dwight McNeil Eyes Milestone Against Arsenal
Everton faces a challenging match against title contenders Arsenal on March 9, 2024. The team will be without key players Idrissa Gueye and Iliman Ndiaye, who are currently representing Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Manager David Moyes is also grappling with the potential absence of Jack Grealish, who has been instrumental for Everton since his loan from Manchester City. If Grealish cannot play, Dwight McNeil is poised to step into the starting lineup.
McNeil, who has had limited opportunities this season, will be eager to make an impact. He has not started in any of his seven Premier League appearances during the current campaign and has only accumulated 104 minutes on the pitch. This has led to speculation regarding his future at Everton, with a possible departure in the January transfer window, although Moyes is unlikely to approve any exits without securing a replacement.
McNeil’s Opportunity for Milestone
If McNeil takes the field against Arsenal, he will achieve a significant milestone. According to BBC Sport, he could become only the fifth player in Premier League history to reach 100 appearances for two different clubs, having previously made 134 appearances for Burnley. The players who have achieved this feat include notable names such as Emile Heskey, Joe Cole, Frank Lampard, and Jermaine Jenas. McNeil’s potential achievement adds an extra layer of motivation for him as Everton looks to secure a vital result against a formidable opponent.
Moyes is expected to give McNeil a chance in the starting lineup, while Tyler Dibling is also likely to feature in Ndiaye’s absence. Dibling, a teenager signed for £40 million in the summer, will need to demonstrate his worth to the team. The loss of Grealish is notable, as he has proven to be a key player against Arsenal, boasting a record of seven wins, two draws, and six defeats in matches against the Gunners, alongside one goal and four assists.
As Everton prepares for this crucial encounter, the team will look to capitalize on any opportunities presented by the absence of Arsenal’s defenders. The match promises to be an exciting clash, with both sides aiming for crucial points as the Premier League season progresses.
