Former Premier League manager Frank de Boer has stated he does not intend to return to coaching, citing the negativity associated with the role as a primary reason. De Boer, who holds the record for the worst managerial start in Premier League history, expressed his feelings in an interview with Voetbal International.

De Boer managed Crystal Palace for just 77 days in 2017, during which he lost all four matches without his team scoring a single goal. This dismal performance led to his dismissal on September 11, 2017. His record for the shortest managerial tenure in terms of games has since been matched by Sam Allardyce, who managed Leeds United for 30 days at the end of the 2022-23 season.

Reflecting on his time in management, De Boer remarked, “Never say never, but I’m not exactly thrilled. I don’t miss all that negativity at all.” He went on to highlight his current contentment with life, enjoying the roles he has with UEFA and as a television analyst for Viaplay. He also noted that he is a grandfather three times over and enjoys playing padel in his leisure time.

De Boer’s coaching career has seen a mixture of highs and lows. Before his time at Crystal Palace, he had a brief stint at Inter Milan, where he lasted just 85 days before being sacked. His most successful period was at Ajax, where he won four consecutive Eredivisie titles between 2011 and 2015.

After leaving Crystal Palace, De Boer went on to manage Atlanta United in Major League Soccer and the national team of the Netherlands, before his last position with Emirati club Al Jazira in 2023. His only victory during his time at Crystal Palace came in the EFL Cup against Ipswich Town.

As managerial changes continue in the Premier League, particularly at clubs like Nottingham Forest, De Boer’s comments reflect the pressures and challenges that come with the position. For now, the 55-year-old seems content to step away from the spotlight and enjoy a quieter life, free from the stresses of top-flight management.
