Nottingham Forest Faces Injury Challenges Ahead of Brighton Match
Nottingham Forest is set to confront a series of injury challenges as they prepare to host Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League on Sunday, October 8, 2023. The team will look to build on their recent success, having secured three consecutive victories, including a Europa League win against Malmo at the City Ground.
Head coach Sean Dyche is optimistic about the return of some players but confirmed that several key team members will likely remain sidelined. Morgan Gibbs-White is anticipated to return from a back issue, offering a boost to the squad. However, others including Chris Wood (knee), Dilane Bakwa (hamstring), Douglas Luiz (hamstring), Taiwo Awoniyi (undisclosed), Oleksandr Zinchenko (groin), Ola Aina (hamstring), Angus Gunn (knee), and young talent Aaron Bott (undisclosed) will not feature.
Dyche expressed that while some players are making progress, their return to full fitness is not imminent. “I think it is unlikely. They are making good progress,” he said. He noted that “two or three of them are probably slightly advanced to where we thought they would be,” but emphasized the need for additional training before they can rejoin the squad fully.
Wood, who has previously worked with Dyche, is still working through a tricky knee injury. Dyche described the situation as a “settling down period,” indicating that Wood is currently in a phase designed to maintain fitness without the strain of full training. “It is just a bit of a waiting game at the minute,” Dyche added, expressing confidence that Wood is feeling better.
Bakwa, a summer signing from Strasbourg, has yet to see significant playing time since his arrival, having only made five appearances. Dyche confirmed that Bakwa is recovering well from his hamstring injury and has returned to training. “Not necessarily for this game, but hopefully he will be sooner rather than later,” Dyche said.
In a recent practice session, defender Murillo appeared to experience discomfort, raising concerns among supporters. Dyche reassured fans, stating, “We think he will be fine. I will find out more but at the moment he should be fine.”
The upcoming match against Brighton holds particular significance, as Forest triumphed with a remarkable 7-0 victory in this fixture last season. Dyche acknowledged this past performance but cautioned that such results are not easily replicated in the competitive landscape of the Premier League. “That was a magnificent performance last season, it’s not easy in the Premier League,” he remarked, noting that the players will focus on the current match without dwelling on past successes.
As Nottingham Forest prepares for the clash on Sunday at 14:05 local time, fans remain hopeful that the team can continue their winning streak despite the ongoing injury challenges.
