Bruno Fernandes Excited for David De Gea’s Return to Old Trafford

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming reunion with former teammate David De Gea ahead of their pre-season match against Fiorentina. The encounter will take place at Old Trafford on August 17, 2024, kicking off at 12:45 local time. This match marks United’s final preparation before they begin their Premier League campaign against Arsenal the following day.
De Gea, who spent 12 years at Manchester United before leaving on a free transfer in the summer of 2023, will return to familiar ground with Fiorentina. The Spanish goalkeeper joined the Italian club a year after his departure from United. His return is expected to draw a crowd of over 50,000 fans eager to welcome him back.
In anticipation of the match, De Gea shared his excitement on social media, posting “See you soon” on the official Manchester United X (formerly Twitter) account. Fernandes mirrored this sentiment by sharing a United post on his Instagram stories, captioning it: “See you soon my friend @d_degeaofficial.” He also responded to De Gea’s latest Instagram post with “Mi Portero,” which translates to “My goalkeeper.”
Fernandes further conveyed his eagerness in a video released on Manchester United’s official social media platforms. He stated, “David my friend. Can’t wait to see you at The Snapdragon Cup. Hope you enjoy being back at Old Trafford to see your fans, to see your house, to see your home. At the same time, I hope I score some goals against you and we enjoy the day together. See you soon my friend.”
Fiorentina’s match against United will be their third game in England this pre-season. They faced Leicester City last Sunday, suffering a 2-0 defeat, with De Gea remaining on the bench. Their previous match ended in a goalless draw against Nottingham Forest, where De Gea played the full 90 minutes.
As excitement builds for this reunion, fans are looking forward to a thrilling encounter that not only highlights De Gea’s legacy at Manchester United but also sets the stage for the club’s forthcoming season.
