Christopher Lloyd Withdraws from Comic Con Liverpool Due to Health Issues
Christopher Lloyd, the celebrated actor best known for his role as Dr. Emmett ‘Doc’ Brown in the Back to the Future trilogy, will not attend Comic Con Liverpool this weekend due to health concerns. The event, scheduled for November 15-16, 2023, was set to feature Lloyd alongside other notable guests, providing fans with opportunities for photo sessions and autographs.
According to a statement from the Comic Con organizers shared on social media, Lloyd encountered a “small health concern” after arriving in Italy last week. Although he had initially planned to participate in conventions in both Italy and Liverpool, advice from his doctor has led him to withdraw from travel. The statement emphasized that Lloyd is currently recovering and there is no cause for alarm regarding his health.
“We know that he is much loved and have been told that there is no reason for anyone to be concerned and that he is making a full recovery,” the organizers stated.
Fans were particularly eager to meet Lloyd, who has also garnered recognition for his performances in Taxi, The Addams Family films, and Who Framed Roger Rabbit. In light of his absence, Comic Con Liverpool announced that Elisabeth Shue would take his place on the Back to the Future panel.
In addition to Lloyd’s withdrawal, three other actors from the American superhero series Gen V—Asa Germann, Derek Luh, and Lizzie Broadway—also canceled their appearances due to production changes. Comic Con Liverpool confirmed that all autograph and photograph refunds for those guests would be processed automatically.
Event Details and Future Plans
Despite the setbacks, Comic Con Liverpool promises an exciting weekend for attendees. The event will still feature stars like Geena Davis, Jennifer Grey, and Emilia Clarke, who will participate in autograph signings, professional photo sessions, and live Q&A panels discussing their careers and upcoming projects.
The organizers have assured ticket holders that they will receive updates regarding refunds for entry tickets, as Lloyd’s absence constitutes a significant change to the event’s lineup. Attendees can still enjoy the convention’s offerings, including various ticket options, from full weekend passes to one-day entries, as well as the annual after party.
As Comic Con Liverpool prepares for the weekend, fans look forward to a star-studded experience filled with engaging activities and opportunities to meet their favorite celebrities, despite the recent changes. The hope remains that Lloyd can reschedule his appearance for a future convention in 2026.
