Jonny Evans Leaves Manchester United Role After Six Months
Manchester United has announced the departure of former player Jonny Evans from his position as head of loans and pathways, just six months after taking on the role. Evans, who retired from professional football in June 2023, was responsible for facilitating loans for young players and collaborating with Jason Wilcox to enhance player development processes.
During his appointment, Evans expressed enthusiasm for supporting young talent. He stated, “I am looking forward to working with the next generation of talented players to support them to reach their potential.” Despite this commitment, the 37-year-old has opted to step away from the role to spend more time with his family.
The club indicated that Evans’s departure is amicable, with the former defender leaving with the best wishes of his colleagues at Manchester United. Sources suggest that he plans to take a break from football before determining his next steps.
Evans’s transition to a management role marked the end of his illustrious playing career. He made a significant impact at Manchester United, where he enjoyed two spells after progressing through the club’s academy. Over his time with the club, he made 241 appearances and won numerous accolades, including the Champions League, three Premier League titles, the FA Cup, and two League Cups.
In total, Evans recorded 536 career appearances and earned 107 caps for the Northern Ireland national team. His contributions to football were recognized when he was awarded an MBE in 2023 for his services to the sport. With his departure from the club, Evans leaves a legacy of dedication and success that has inspired many young players.
