Senne Lammens Reflects on Manchester United’s Team Spirit
Senne Lammens has expressed his surprise at the strong camaraderie within the dressing room of Manchester United since his arrival in the summer. The Belgian goalkeeper joined the club from Royal Antwerp on the final day of the summer transfer window and made a notable impact after making his debut in October. Since then, he has established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper, having kept a clean sheet against Sunderland, and received accolades for his consistent performances at Old Trafford.
Lammens recently spoke with Malaysian broadcaster Stadium Astro during an interview at the club’s training facility in Carrington. He was asked about his closest relationships within the team. While he mentioned fellow goalkeepers Tom Heaton and Dermot Mee, he emphasized the collective bond among all players, stating, “It’s just the togetherness of the group and of the dressing room. Everyone was really nice.”
The positive atmosphere in the dressing room can be attributed in part to manager Amorim, who has worked to improve morale after the departure of several players last summer. Sources indicate that a sense of unity has developed among the remaining players, fostering an “us against them” mentality that has revitalized team spirit.
In addition to his observations about the dressing room, Lammens shared personal insights into his preparation routine. He revealed that he journals before and after matches, a practice he adopted during his time at Antwerp two years ago. “I like to write things down before and after a game just to get my head into the right mindset,” he explained. Journaling helps him process his thoughts, allowing him to focus on key points regarding opponents and personal performance.
Lammens takes great pride in being a well-rounded goalkeeper. He noted, “It’s not just stop-stopping; it’s coming out for crosses and helping the defence when the balls go behind them.” His ability to distribute the ball effectively with both feet adds a layer of complexity for opposing teams when pressing him. “That makes it more difficult for the opponent to press me,” he added.
His commitment to improvement and understanding of the game showcases his dedication to Manchester United. As he continues to develop in the Premier League, Lammens aims to solidify his role as a key player for the club while contributing to the positive atmosphere he was so pleasantly surprised to find upon his arrival.
