Snobs Owners Invest £4 Million in New Irish Bar on Broad Street
The owners of the renowned Snobs nightclub have announced the opening of a new Irish bar on Broad Street in Birmingham, with plans to invest £4 million into the project over the next two years. The venue, previously known as Players Bar, was closed in 2022 due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, despite its popularity among patrons. The property, located at 240 Broad Street, was sold for £2.5 million on a long leasehold and is set to offer a revitalized experience in the city’s nightlife.
Wayne Tracey, owner of Snobs, expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming bar, stating, “We shall shortly start development of a new Irish bar to add to the city’s growing stock of top-quality hospitality venues.” The establishment is expected to debut in the first quarter of 2026 and aims to deliver a unique experience for both locals and visitors alike.
The new bar will be designed to accommodate a variety of activities, including daytime hospitality, sports events, and live music performances. “With such large spaces, the building will need to offer flexibility and variety in its offerings for the surrounding areas,” Tracey noted. The project will also feature outdoor spaces, including a garden terrace and a roof terrace, enhancing the overall ambiance of the venue.
In addition to the Irish bar, the development plans include live music spaces and other vibrant opportunities that reflect the character of Birmingham’s entertainment scene. Tracey emphasized the importance of creating a “best in class” venue that is reflective of the team’s Irish heritage.
The sale was facilitated by Paul Newby of Matthew Phillips Surveyors, who commented on the significance of the project. “This project will see the renaissance of a well-known former bar and late-night venue that was a victim of the seismic effects of COVID-19,” he stated. Newby added that the investment represents a strong vote of confidence in Birmingham’s leisure landscape, positioning the city as an attractive destination for both locals and visitors.
This new venture adds to Snobs’ expanding portfolio of city centre venues, which already includes Henman & Cooper, Theatrix, and Sobar. The owners aim to enrich Birmingham’s vibrant entertainment scene, drawing more customers and enhancing the overall nightlife experience.
The former Players Bar is strategically located between the Leonardo Hotel and a Wetherspoons pub, making it accessible for a diverse clientele. With the anticipated opening, Birmingham’s Broad Street is poised to welcome another dynamic venue, reinforcing its status as a key destination in the city’s nightlife landscape.
