Alan Titchmarsh Reacts to Prue Leith’s Surprising Admission
Alan Titchmarsh experienced a surprising moment on his show, *Love Your Weekend*, when Great British Bake Off judge Prue Leith made an unexpected confession. During the November 23, 2023, episode, Titchmarsh was joined by Leith and actor Robert Bathurst in his garden studio, leading to a lively discussion that took a surprising turn.
The conversation began with the guests sharing insights about their African roots. Prue Leith discussed her upbringing in Cape Town, while Robert Bathurst revealed his origins in Accra, the capital of Ghana. As they transitioned to the topic of gardening, Bathurst mentioned his recent venture into growing vegetables, admitting that he was still learning the ropes but was making progress.
Curious about Bathurst’s gardening efforts, Leith asked him how he managed the summer produce. She humorously complained about the abundance of vegetables, saying, “There’s all these b***y tomatoes and all these piles of spinach.” Reflecting on her own experiences with homegrown produce, she recounted the challenges of harvesting and storing large quantities.
“I spent years growing and processing,” Leith shared, “and what you do is you find yourself at midnight freezing spinach. It fills the freezer, and then you’ve got far too much of it and you end up making room in the freezer next year for more spinach and putting that lot on the compost heap.” She humorously concluded that purchasing vegetables from the supermarket often seemed more practical than dealing with the excess from her garden.
Titchmarsh appeared taken aback by Leith’s candidness about her preference for supermarket vegetables. He jokingly remarked, “If only we could edit that out,” prompting laughter from the group. “Prue Leith, famous cook, don’t bother growing it; it’s in the supermarket,” he added, highlighting the lighthearted nature of the discussion.
This episode of *Love Your Weekend*, which airs every Sunday at 09:30 on ITV and ITVX, provided viewers with an engaging mix of culinary insight and personal anecdotes, reflecting the guests’ diverse backgrounds and experiences.
The unexpected exchange between Titchmarsh and Leith not only entertained the audience but also sparked conversations about the realities of gardening and the balance between homegrown and store-bought produce. The show’s blend of humor and relatable content continues to resonate with viewers, making it a staple in weekend television.
