Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Star Wenne Alton Davis Dies at 60 After Accident
Wenne Alton Davis, known for her role in the acclaimed series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, has tragically passed away at the age of 60 after being struck by a car in New York City. The incident occurred on December 9, 2023, around 21:00 in Manhattan, where she was hit by an SUV. She was pronounced dead later that evening at a local hospital.
Davis, whose birth name was Wendy Davis, was born on October 18, 1965, in Durham, North Carolina. She relocated to New York City to pursue a career in stand-up comedy, which eventually led her to acting. In addition to her work in television, she was also employed as security staff at John F. Kennedy International Airport.
Jamie Harris, Davis’s agent at Clear Talent Group, confirmed her passing in a heartfelt statement to the media. “I can only describe Wenne Davis as a bright light,” Harris said. “She had a huge love for New York, for acting, for her colleagues at JFK, and, most of all, her family and her circle of friends, which was also huge.”
Davis was praised for her kindness and generosity. Harris noted that many of her friends had expressed disbelief at the news of her untimely death. “She was someone for whom friendliness and kindness were not what she did but more who she was as a person,” he added. “We all agree that she had much more to do in her career as an actor and her life.”
Just prior to the accident, Davis had visited a close friend in her neighborhood, expressing her love and appreciation. “It was so weird to me, because I felt like she was saying goodbye,” the friend shared with The Daily News.
Davis’s acting credits include a range of appearances in popular television shows. In 2023, she portrayed a police officer in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, alongside Rachel Brosnahan. She also appeared in Blindspot in 2019, as well as roles in New Amsterdam and The Normal Heart. In 2022, she featured in Girls5eva, and had a part in Rescue Me back in 2009.
The entertainment community is mourning the loss of a talented actress whose impact extended beyond her performances. Davis’s warm spirit and passion for her craft will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
