Dedalus Expands Operations in Ireland, Adding 100 New Jobs
Leading European healthcare technology firm Dedalus has announced plans to create 100 new jobs in Ireland as part of a substantial €10 million expansion of its operations. This move will increase the company’s Irish workforce to a total of 150 employees over the next four years. Dedalus, recognized as Europe’s only large-scale provider of electronic health records, develops digital health software solutions that enhance various stages of the healthcare process.
The announcement has been welcomed by Taoiseach Micheál Martin, who stated, “Dedalus’ expansion in Ireland is a welcome boost to our digital health ambitions. These 100 new jobs will support the delivery of better, more connected healthcare services while reinforcing Ireland as a key player in the European health technology ecosystem.”
Dedalus’ expansion aligns with its ongoing commitment to support significant digital health initiatives in Ireland. In 2021, the company acquired the online healthcare appointment platform Swiftqueue, which manages over 4 million appointments annually within the country’s healthcare system. This year, Dedalus launched several innovative products and services, including new clinical applications that facilitated training for 3,000 staff at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.
Enhancing Healthcare Infrastructure
In addition to training initiatives, Dedalus modernized the laboratory information management systems at St James’s Hospital, where more than 12 million tests are processed each year. Beyond Dublin, Dedalus has deployed digital systems across the Mid-West and West/North-West regions of Ireland. The firm also plans to introduce a Medicinal Product Catalogue, Terminology Service, and Data Dictionary in 2025, demonstrating its ongoing investment in the country’s healthcare infrastructure.
The new roles created through this expansion will focus on areas such as software engineering, product management, clinical informatics, data analytics, cybersecurity, and implementation services. This strategic move aims to further embed Ireland at the center of Dedalus’ efforts to provide digital health solutions for healthcare providers throughout the nation and Europe, where its applications currently serve one in three European citizens.
“We see Ireland as central to our mission to assist healthcare systems in delivering safer, more connected care,” stated Cathy McCartan, Executive Director of Dedalus Healthcare Ireland. “This investment allows us to expand our Irish team and capabilities, supporting hospitals and community services with interoperable electronic health records, diagnostics, imaging platforms, clinical decision support, and integration services.”
Support from IDA Ireland
The expansion is backed by IDA Ireland, which plays a crucial role in attracting foreign investment to the country. Michael Lohan, Chief Executive of IDA Ireland, commented on the importance of this decision: “Dedalus’ decision to expand in Ireland underscores IDA Ireland’s track record and reputation as a leading location for digital health and enterprise software. These highly-skilled roles will contribute to innovation in patient care and strengthen Ireland’s position within a dynamic European health-tech sector.”
As Dedalus embarks on this expansion, the focus will remain on unlocking the full value of Ireland’s healthcare data to enhance patient outcomes, support system-wide decision-making, and deliver tangible benefits to the country’s healthcare landscape. The firm is excited about growing its presence in Ireland and exporting Irish-led innovation across its broader European network.
