Mum’s Weight-Loss Journey Takes Unexpected Turn After Jab Switch

A mother from Oxford, Kennidee Cox, has shared her experience after switching weight-loss medications, revealing unexpected changes in her diet. After transitioning from Mounjaro to Wegovy due to rising costs, she claims she can no longer enjoy some of her favorite meals, including spaghetti bolognese and beef burgers.

Cox began her weight loss journey with Mounjaro over a year ago and has reportedly lost more than five stone. However, since switching to Wegovy six weeks ago, the 27-year-old has experienced significant dietary restrictions. “Whenever I eat a beef burger – one of my favorites – I tend to get a dodgy tummy; it just doesn’t sit right,” she explained.

Cox indicated that her experience with Wegovy has not only affected her favorite foods but has also improved her inflammation and hormone balance. She noted that friends who have undergone gastric band surgery and are now using Wegovy have been advised to avoid beef due to its longer digestion time.

“I can’t eat anything heavy in oils or grease anymore,” she said, expressing disappointment about having to give up curry, which she has not consumed in about a year. Before the price increase, Cox paid £165 per month for Mounjaro but now pays £135 for Wegovy, making the latter a more affordable option.

Despite not seeing significant weight loss since starting Wegovy, Kennidee remains optimistic. She began her weight-loss journey at 17 stone and is now approaching her goal weight of 10 stone. “Some people are too quick to give up on Wegovy. I’m not ruling out going back to Mounjaro, but I’m going to at least give it a try for a few months,” she stated.

Cox acknowledges the likelihood of remaining on the medication long-term, particularly after experiencing weight gain during a four-week break before her wedding. “Because of the health benefits, I think I’ll be one of those people on [GLP-1 jabs] for the long-term,” she remarked.

The transition between the two medications has also altered her cravings. Where she once desired takeaways and greasy foods, she now seeks “comfort, home-cooked meals.” Cox highlighted several positive aspects of Wegovy, including its extended shelf life, which lasts a full week before needing a new injection, compared to the five-day duration of Mounjaro. She mentioned that on Mounjaro, she often felt hungrier towards the end of the week.

“The consistency throughout the week is a welcome change,” she noted. Additionally, she praised the user-friendly design of the Wegovy pen, which requires a simple button click instead of the more complicated plunger mechanism of Mounjaro.

Cox’s family, including her husband, has been supportive of her journey with GLP-1 medications, as long as it contributes to her happiness. She has actively shared her experiences, tips, and lessons from her weight-loss journey on TikTok, engaging with a community interested in similar health transformations.
