Prince George’s Transport Rule Changes as He Turns 12

Prince George, now aged 12, is set to be separated from his father, Prince William, during certain transport arrangements as a precautionary measure. This policy, which will affect how they travel, is viewed as “sensible” by royal commentators due to the potential risks involved. The decision reflects longstanding protocols that were also applicable to William when he reached the same age in 1994.
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams stated that this separation is a reasonable precaution. He emphasized that “if anything were to happen, heaven forbid, it would only seem a sensible precaution.” The move aligns with the heightened awareness around security for members of the royal family, particularly as they navigate public engagements.
Commentator Robert Jobson highlighted the frustrations that could arise for Princess Kate and William due to this policy. He noted that coordinating travel can become complicated when one child is required to take a different route. “I can understand why there was frustration because if you’re going to separately get one child to take a different route, it can be quite awkward if you’re going on holidays,” Jobson explained.
The necessity of this rule becomes even more pronounced given the health concerns surrounding King Charles, who has previously faced a cancer diagnosis. Jobson pointed out that the King’s experiences have likely influenced his perspective on the safety of the royal family and the future of the monarchy, especially regarding Prince George’s role in it.
George, the eldest of three children of Kate Middleton and William, is preparing to support the England women’s football team in their upcoming match against Spain. The final of the Euro 2025 tournament will take place in Basel, Switzerland, on Sunday, marking a significant moment as it serves as a rematch of the World Cup final from two years ago. This follows England’s triumphant victory at Wembley in 2021.
With this new precaution in place, the royal family continues to adapt to the evolving landscape of public life and security, ensuring the safety of their youngest members as they engage in both personal and public events.
