Five Arrested During Bristol Protest Involving Rival Groups

Five individuals were arrested during a protest in Bristol on November 16, 2025, following clashes between an anti-immigration group known as the Bristol Patriots and anti-fascist counter-protesters. None of those arrested were residents of the city, according to Avon & Somerset Police.

The protest began around 13:00 local time at Redcliff Hill in the Redcliffe area. The Bristol Patriots arrived to find a large gathering of anti-fascist and anti-racism advocates already present. The situation escalated, leading to the police intervention and subsequent arrests.

Among those detained were a 22-year-old man from Cornwall, a 25-year-old man from Richmond-upon-Thames, two men aged 43 and 20 from Portsmouth, and a 37-year-old woman from London. The police reported that all five were released on conditional bail after being arrested on various charges, including assaulting emergency workers and failing to provide identification when requested.

One officer sustained injuries during the protest and was taken to the hospital, but has since been discharged. Chief Inspector Keith Smith expressed disappointment over the disorder caused by some counter-protesters, stating, “It is totally unacceptable that officers have been assaulted.” He confirmed that investigations into the incidents, including other assaults on police, are ongoing.

The police also implemented measures to separate the groups and ensure public safety. Several counter-protesters were ordered to leave the area to help maintain order during the event.

In attendance at the demonstration was Nick Tenconi, the leader of the United Kingdom Independence Party, who spoke to both reporters and protesters. He made controversial remarks about Bristol, labeling it a “communist-run hell-hole” while simultaneously praising it as a “wonderful town.”

The situation highlights the ongoing tensions surrounding immigration policies in the UK, as rival groups continue to clash in public demonstrations across the country. The police are committed to ensuring that such protests remain peaceful, and they will continue to pursue those who engage in criminal activity during these events.
