Norway Dominates Women’s Handball with 100 Times More Players than Montenegro
The stark contrast in women’s handball participation between Norway and Montenegro is highlighted by the recent statistics from the Women’s Handball Federation of Montenegro (RSCG). Montenegro has only 893 registered female players, which includes youth categories. Of these, a mere 426 are seniors. In comparison, Norway boasts an impressive 92,929 registered female players, part of a total of 142,474 handball players across the country. This means that women represent a significant 65.23% of the total player base in Norway.
As Montenegro prepares to face Norway in the quarterfinals of the World Handball Championship, the match is set to kick off at 20:30 local time in Dortmund. Norway, the reigning vice-champions, has established themselves as a formidable force in the tournament, averaging 36 goals per game on their path to the final eight. They have consistently outperformed their opponents, winning all six of their matches by a margin of double digits.
The journey for Montenegro has been notably more challenging. Despite facing tough competition, their performance has shown resilience, especially following a significant defeat to Germany by 18 goals. Just two days later, Montenegro bounced back with a convincing win against Serbia, finishing with a remarkable margin of 16 goals.
In this upcoming quarterfinal clash, Montenegro will aim to leverage their experience and tenacity against a well-established Norwegian team. With such a vast difference in registered players, Montenegro’s achievement in reaching this stage of the championship speaks volumes about their dedication and potential in women’s handball.
As both teams prepare for this high-stakes matchup, the spotlight will be on how Montenegro can compete against a powerhouse like Norway, which continues to thrive in the world of women’s sports. The upcoming match not only represents a pivotal moment for both nations but also serves as a testament to the growing popularity and competitiveness of women’s handball on the international stage.
