Two American Tourists Drown at Carnival’s New Bahamas Resort

Two American tourists tragically drowned hours apart during separate incidents at Carnival’s newly opened private resort on Grand Bahama Island. The fatalities occurred on August 15, 2023, at Celebration Key, a location recently added to Carnival Cruise Line’s offerings.
According to officials, the victims were passengers from different cruise ships visiting the resort. The Royal Bahamas Police Force has initiated an investigation into both incidents, which were classified as “water emergency incidents.” A spokesperson for Carnival confirmed that lifeguards and medical teams on site responded promptly to each situation.
The first incident involved a 79-year-old man who was snorkeling at the beach when he became unresponsive shortly before noon. Lifeguards rushed to assist him and administered CPR after bringing him back to shore. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
The second victim, a 74-year-old woman, drowned in the resort’s lagoon. Details surrounding her incident have yet to be clarified, but it is known that both guests were American nationals. The circumstances of these deaths have raised concerns over safety protocols at the newly established resort.
Officials from Carnival Cruise Line have expressed their condolences to the families affected by these unfortunate events. The company is cooperating with the ongoing investigation to determine the specifics of each incident.
This tragic occurrence serves as a reminder of the risks associated with water activities, even in controlled resort environments. As the investigations proceed, further information is expected to shed light on the safety measures in place at Celebration Key.
Guests and potential visitors to the resort are advised to remain vigilant and adhere to safety guidelines while enjoying water-related activities.
