Dominic Chinea Relocates to Cornwall, Embraces New Chapter
Dominic Chinea, a prominent expert from the popular television show *The Repair Shop*, has embarked on a transformative journey following his move to Cornwall. The metalwork specialist relocated from Kent with his family and workshop, calling the decision “life-changing.”
In an interview, Chinea expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, stating, “It is completely life-changing. It really is. I’m never moving again.” He described the relocation as both stressful and rewarding, adding that establishing his workshop at home has long been a dream. Nevertheless, he acknowledged the challenges, saying, “It has been a lot of work, a huge amount of work,” noting that his new workspace is still in a state of disrepair. “I’m still shovelling cow poo out where all my tools are,” he remarked, highlighting the ongoing effort required to get his workshop fully operational.
Chinea’s journey in the television industry began in 2017 when he joined *The Repair Shop*. He quickly transitioned from a crew member to a main presenter. Reflecting on his unexpected television career, he shared, “I was at my workshop in Hackney Wick, making props, designing and building props, and so on set, but behind the camera.” He admitted he never anticipated appearing on screen, which he now considers a fulfilling role. “This whole sort of TV presenter thing is nothing I could have ever expected,” he added.
In addition to his television work, Chinea is now collaborating with Smart Energy GB to raise awareness about reducing waste. Recent findings from the organization reveal that 39% of individuals admit to throwing away items that could be repaired, leading to an average loss of £163 on unnecessary purchases. This statistic is particularly striking, considering that 75% of respondents claim they prefer buying durable goods.
Chinea emphasized the importance of the campaign, stating, “I guess I’ve spent a lot of my time helping and supporting and trying to encourage new business owners and small craft people to start their own business.” Drawing from his own experiences, he aims to assist others in navigating the challenges of entrepreneurship. “I think that’s why I feel so passionate about it, because I want to try and help,” he explained.
He underscored the significance of the current economic climate for small businesses, noting, “It’s harder and harder these days.” Chinea advocates for the installation of smart meters, which can help entrepreneurs monitor their expenses effectively. “Every penny counts. Every penny helps with a new small business,” he stated.
As he settles into his new surroundings in Cornwall, Chinea remains dedicated to his craft and committed to making positive contributions to both his community and the wider conversation about sustainability and business resilience. His journey exemplifies the intersection of personal transformation and professional growth, inspiring others to consider the impact of their choices on the environment and local economies.
