Apple Secures Exclusive Formula 1 Streaming Rights in US
The landscape of Formula 1 viewing in the United States is set to undergo significant changes. Apple has officially announced a five-year partnership with Formula 1, making Apple TV the exclusive provider of F1 content in the country starting in 2026. This new arrangement will see Formula 1’s streaming service, F1 TV Premium, integrated into Apple TV, marking a pivotal shift for fans of the sport.
Currently, Formula 1 races are accessible through ESPN and various streaming packages offered by Disney and Hulu. However, the upcoming agreement will consolidate all coverage under Apple TV. Those who already subscribe to F1 TV Premium will not incur additional fees for accessing Formula 1 content following the transition. “We’re thrilled to expand our relationship with Formula 1 and offer Apple TV subscribers in the U.S. front-row access to one of the most exciting and fastest-growing sports on the planet,” stated Eddy Cue, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Services.
Comprehensive Coverage and Broader Integration
Beginning in 2026, Apple TV will provide extensive coverage of Formula 1, including practices, qualifying races, Grands Prix, and more. Additionally, Apple plans to offer select races and practices for free through the Apple TV app, making it easier for potential viewers to engage with the sport. The partnership aims to enhance F1’s presence within Apple’s ecosystem, with updates and content planned for Apple News, Apple Music, Apple Fitness, and Apple Maps. The Apple Sports app will also feature live updates for qualifying races, sprints, and Grands Prix throughout the season.
“This is an incredibly exciting partnership for Apple and the whole of Formula 1 that will ensure we can continue to maximize our growth potential in the U.S. with the right content and innovative distribution channels,” remarked Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1.
As for ESPN, the network has not released details regarding its future plans for Formula 1 coverage. In a statement obtained by CNBC, ESPN representatives expressed pride in their collaboration with Formula 1, stating they “look forward to a strong finish in this final season.”
With this new partnership, Apple is positioning itself as a key player in the rapidly growing sports streaming market, catering to the increasing demand for Formula 1 content among U.S. viewers. As the transition approaches, fans are eager to see how this exclusive deal will reshape their viewing experience and expand Formula 1’s reach in the United States.
