Trump Seeks Gossip on Meghan Markle During UK Visit
During his state visit to the United Kingdom in September 2023, US President Donald Trump allegedly inquired about Meghan Markle while meeting with Queen Camilla. This revelation, reported by royal commentator Tom Sykes, suggests that Trump sought the latest updates on Markle, who has distanced herself from royal duties since 2020.
The state visit, which took place at Windsor Castle, was marked by the usual ceremonial grandeur, including a formal welcome and a state banquet. Trump appeared to enjoy the occasion, especially the opportunity to reconnect with King Charles, whom he referred to as his “mate.” However, behind closed doors, Trump reportedly expressed interest in Markle, asking Queen Camilla, “What’s the gossip on Meghan then? What’s going on there?”
Given Trump’s history of publicly criticizing both Markle and her husband, Prince Harry, the inquiry may come as a surprise to those familiar with the strained relationship between the former royals and the US President. Despite Trump’s past disdain for the couple, he seemingly sought an update during this high-profile visit.
Sykes noted that the royal family has generally avoided discussing Harry and Meghan in public forums in recent years. This might have left Trump feeling disappointed, especially considering his belief that their departure from royal duties caused emotional distress to the late Queen Elizabeth II. In a 2021 interview on GB News with Nigel Farage, Trump stated, “I’m not a fan of hers [Meghan]. I wasn’t from day one. I think Harry has been used horribly and I think some day he will regret it.” He added that the situation “hurts the Queen.”
Earlier this year, Trump reiterated his negative views about Markle, calling her “terrible” during a conversation with The New York Post. The contrast between his public remarks and his private inquiries highlights the complexities of royal relationships and the ongoing fascination with the lives of the Sussexes.
As the royal family continues to navigate its relationship with Harry and Meghan, Trump’s interest in their story reflects a broader public curiosity. The dynamics between political figures and royal family members often capture media attention, particularly when intertwined with personal opinions and historical grievances.
