Major UK Supermarkets Issue Urgent Food Recall Due to Allergens
The Food Standards Agency has announced an urgent product recall involving several major UK retailers, including Marks and Spencer, Tesco, and Aldi, due to potential undeclared allergens in various food items. Consumers are strongly advised to check their cupboards for specific products that could pose serious health risks, particularly for individuals with allergies or intolerances.
Tesco Free From Breadcrumbs are being recalled because they contain wheat, a fact that is not indicated on the packaging. This poses a significant risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten, including those with coeliac disease. The product comes in a 170g pack size, and all batch codes are affected. Customers are advised to return the product to any Tesco store for a full refund, without needing to provide a receipt.
Another product, M&S Milk Chocolate Honeycomb, is also under recall due to the possible presence of peanuts that are not declared on the label. This product could endanger those with peanut allergies. The affected pack size is 120g, with a lot number of 5242 and a best before date of May 12, 2026. Customers should refrain from consuming this product and return it for a full refund.
A recall is also in effect for Goodies Foods Mediterranean Falafel Mix, which contains sesame not mentioned on its label. This presents a health risk for individuals with sesame allergies. The product, sold in 400g packs (350g + 50g), has batch codes B:01 and B:49, with best before dates of February 1, 2028, and February 9, 2028. Customers are instructed to return the product for a refund if they have a sesame allergy.
Additionally, Aldi is recalling its Gianni’s Cheeky Monkey Ice Cream due to undeclared wheat, which again poses a risk for those with coeliac disease or wheat allergies. The product is available in a 500ml pack with a best before date of August 14, 2027. Consumers should return this ice cream to the nearest Aldi store for a full refund.
Finally, Booker Jack’s Mature Cheddar and Red Onion Hand Cooked Crisps are being recalled because they contain undeclared milk, posing a risk for those allergic to milk or its components. The affected pack size is 120g with a best before date of January 17, 2026. Customers should not consume this product and return it to the place of purchase for a refund.
These recalls emphasize the importance of reading labels carefully and being aware of potential allergens in food products. The Food Standards Agency continues to monitor these situations and urges anyone affected to take immediate action.
