Father Dies of Grief After Daughter’s Brutal Murder in Paris
The tragic case of 12-year-old Lola Daviet has taken a devastating turn as her father, Johan Daviet, has reportedly died from grief following her brutal murder. Lola was tragically raped and murdered by Dahbia Benkired, a 27-year-old woman, whose actions have sparked anger and political controversy in France. The young girl’s body was discovered in a plastic box outside her family’s apartment in Paris in October 2022, just hours after she was reported missing.
In a significant legal ruling, Benkired was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 30 years for her crimes on February 16, 2023. This case marks the first instance in French legal history where a woman has received a whole-life sentence. The court heard that Benkired committed the horrific act as a form of revenge after Lola’s mother, Delphine Daviet, refused to grant her access to the building where they lived.
The unfolding events surrounding this case highlighted troubling issues within France regarding immigration laws. Reports indicate that Benkired had overstayed her student visa, which had expired after she was stopped at a Paris airport in July 2022. Following her arrest, Lola’s parents condemned the use of their daughter’s name for political purposes, emphasizing the need for justice rather than political gain.
During the trial, Delphine Daviet recounted the profound impact of her daughter’s death on her husband. She described how he relapsed into drinking after years of sobriety, stating, “He drank from morning to night” following the tragedy. Tragically, Johan Daviet passed away in February 2023, just a few months after the loss of his daughter, with Delphine asserting that he “died of grief.”
In a poignant display of love, Johan had left a letter for Benkired, expressing his confusion over the brutality inflicted on his daughter. The letter concluded with a heartfelt message: “I can’t wait to see you again,” signed by “Your dad, who loves you for life.”
The courtroom proceedings revealed the harrowing details of Lola’s murder. As the trial progressed, CCTV footage was shown, depicting Benkired opening a suitcase containing Lola’s remains shortly after the crime. Medical experts reported that Lola sustained 38 injuries and ultimately died from asphyxiation. The nature of her injuries, including visible trauma to her genitals and severe wounds to her face, prompted a strong emotional response from family members present in the courtroom.
On the day of her murder, Lola was seen entering an apartment building and conversing with Benkired around 15:00. It is alleged that Benkired then led Lola into her apartment, where the brutal attack took place. Following the act, she reportedly transported Lola’s body in a plastic box and discarded it on the street, where it was later found by a homeless man.
During her trial, Benkired pleaded for forgiveness, stating, “What I did was horrible. I regret it.” Despite her expressions of remorse, the court sentenced her to life imprisonment with no possibility of early release, reflecting the gravity of her actions and the profound impact on the Daviet family and the broader community.
The aftermath of this case continues to resonate deeply within France, sparking discussions about violence against women and the responsibilities associated with immigration policies. The tragic loss of Lola Daviet serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of such acts and the enduring pain felt by the families left behind.
