New Direct Flights from East Midlands Airport to Channel Islands
East Midlands Airport is set to enhance travel options with new direct flights to the Channel Islands starting in summer 2026. Regional airline Blue Islands has unveiled its upcoming schedule, which includes direct flights to Guernsey on Tuesdays and Saturdays. These flights will continue on to Jersey, providing convenient connections for holidaymakers. Throughout the rest of the week, flights will primarily operate to Jersey, followed by Guernsey.
Passengers will also have additional choices, as Jet2 will introduce new Saturday flights to Jersey from Easter through to October 10, 2026. This expansion aims to cater to the growing demand for island-hopping holidays among travelers from the East Midlands region.
Exploring the Channel Islands
Guernsey, the second-largest of the Channel Islands, is located just 27 miles west of the Normandy coast and spans an area of 30 square miles. It attracts a diverse range of visitors seeking various holiday experiences, from wellness retreats and outdoor adventures to cultural sightseeing. The island’s predominantly flat landscape, with some low hills in the southwest, makes it well-suited for cycling and walking. Guernsey features eleven official cycle routes and offers scenic hiking trails along its picturesque coastline.
Jersey, the largest of the Channel Islands at 45 square miles, boasts a unique blend of French street names and British currency, reflecting its rich cultural heritage. The island enjoys a mild climate, making it an appealing destination for travelers year-round.
Mike Grimes, the customer services and planning director at East Midlands Airport, highlighted the popularity of these short-hop flights, stating, “Short-hop flights to Guernsey and Jersey are very popular, offering idyllic island escapes within easy reach. We’re pleased to have more choice of how to get there available next summer.”
As travel demand continues to recover, East Midlands Airport and its airline partners are focusing on providing a broader range of options for travelers eager to explore these charming islands. With the introduction of these flights, holidaymakers will have the opportunity to enjoy the captivating landscapes and vibrant cultures of Guernsey and Jersey more easily than ever before.
