A determined 12-year-old named Oakley Robinson has successfully completed a 30-mile challenge, walking and cycling to raise funds for the rescue ponies that provide him with therapy. Despite facing significant health challenges, including autism, global development delay, hypermobility, and a heart murmur, Oakley has shown remarkable perseverance over the past month. His efforts aim to support Forever Loved Horse Therapy, a charity dedicated to assisting individuals with various physical and mental health needs.

Based in Highclere, Forever Loved Horse Therapy is a family-run organization that cares for 11 rescue ponies. The charity offers interactive sessions with the animals for both adults and children, helping those with disabilities or learning difficulties. Oakley began visiting the facility two months ago, and it quickly became apparent to his family how much he enjoyed the experience.

After attending sessions every other Saturday, Oakley expressed a desire to give back to the charity. His mother, Sam Robinson, suggested a fundraising initiative, and the idea of walking and cycling 30 miles emerged. “It was a massive challenge considering his needs,” she said. So far, Oakley’s JustGiving page has raised £545, surpassing his initial target of £500.

As Oakley approaches his 13th birthday on New Year’s Eve, he completed the final mile of his challenge alongside his favorite pony, Ernie. The accomplishment is not only a personal victory for Oakley, but it also significantly aids the charity during the demanding winter months.

According to Charlotte Walton, who co-founded Forever Loved Horse Therapy with her mother, recent expenses have heightened the need for financial support. With hay bills, farrier visits, and surgery for two ponies, the funds raised by Oakley will greatly assist in covering these costs. “We do try and do fundraising, but we are only a small team,” Walton stated. “We’re so proud of him. He’s done so well.”

The organization strives to keep costs low to ensure accessibility for those in need. Walton emphasized the importance of their mission, stating, “We don’t want to charge the earth because we want to reach the people that need it.” The therapy not only benefits the children who participate but also offers respite for parents, allowing them a moment to breathe.

As Oakley continues to inspire with his dedication and fundraising efforts, his story serves as a reminder of the impact that compassion and determination can have on both individuals and communities. The funds raised will ensure that Forever Loved Horse Therapy can continue its vital work.
