John Bradley, known for his role in the acclaimed series Game of Thrones, was recently seen on location in York, England, while filming his upcoming movie, Merry Christmas Aubrey Flint. This marks the first public sighting of the actor during production, as he donned a deerstalker hat and a duffel coat for the shoot.

The film, set to be released in 2026, revolves around an amateur staging of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, which takes place in a care home. Bradley plays the lead role of Aubrey Flint, a reluctant individual overseeing the production while serving community service. Filming began on October 4, 2023, with scenes shot in the picturesque Colliergate district of York.

Star-Studded Cast and Filming Details

Among the notable cast members alongside Bradley is Kiell Smith-Bynoe, recognized for his work in popular comedy series such as Ghosts and Stath Lets Flats. The film features other prominent actors, including Richard E. Grant, Celia Imrie, and Adjoa Andoh, as well as Karl Pilkington from An Idiot Abroad and BAFTA-nominated Dustin Demri-Burns.

Production crews were seen setting up equipment along Fossgate and Colliergate. Filming on Tuesday included a scene that required partial closure of a local retailer, Barnitts, around 9:30 a.m.. A notice from SUMS Film & Media Ltd, the production company behind the film, expressed gratitude to residents and visitors for their cooperation and assured that local businesses would remain open during the shoot.

York’s Scenic Beauty Draws Filmmakers

The director, Jack Spring, along with producer Andy Brunskill, chose York as a filming location for its “sheer beauty.” Brunskill mentioned that the crew would capture iconic shots of landmarks such as the Minster and the streets near the Shambles, enhancing the film’s festive atmosphere.

The production is set to continue for a total of seven days, with the team working diligently to ensure both safety and minimal disruption to the community. The public notice also encouraged people to follow crew member instructions and exercise caution around filming activities.

With the screenplay written by Chris Boyle-McQuarry, Merry Christmas Aubrey Flint promises to be a heartwarming addition to the holiday film lineup, showcasing both talent and the charm of York.
