The festive spirit will come alive in Royal Tunbridge Wells on November 15, 2023, as the town celebrates its Christmas kickoff with a day full of activities. The event, organized by RTW Together, the local Business Improvement District, is set to offer a variety of attractions, including market stalls, rides, and a sing-along Santa parade.

The festivities will take place between 10:00 and 17:00 on Mount Pleasant, outside Civic Way. Visitors can enjoy a Christmas market featuring over ten community performances, a range of market and community stands, and funfair rides. The atmosphere promises to be lively, with entertainment suitable for families and festive cheer on display.

At 17:00, participants will be invited to join the Christmas Kick Off Parade, which will feature Santa and his festive train, dubbed Rudolph’s Runner. The parade will commence from Civic Way, winding through the town and concluding on Camden Road. Along the route, local singers and pantomime characters will add to the celebratory mood.

Once the parade reaches Camden Road, a section of the street will be closed to traffic for a spectacular display of fireworks and a free after party. This evening event will run from 19:00 to 22:00, offering late-night shopping, music from a DJ, bauble bingo with free prizes, and food and drink from local vendors.

For those interested in taking a ride on the festive train, it will operate on select dates from November 16 to December 24, between 10:00 and 16:00. Tickets are available for advance purchase, priced at £8.50 for a full route from Pantiles to Pantiles and £5 for a half-route from Pantiles to RVP. Passengers may also purchase tickets directly from the conductor when the train arrives.

In addition to the Christmas fair, the popular ice skating attraction, Skate TW, will return to Calverley Grounds for its 15th year, starting December 5. This year promises a large outdoor ice rink, towering trees adorned with lights, and a cozy marquee offering food and drinks. Tickets for skating will be priced at under £12 for individuals under 16 and £17 for adults, with discounts available for advance bookings.

A spokesperson for Skate TW stated, “This year, Calverley Grounds transforms again into a magical ice rink, bringing festive cheer to Tunbridge Wells. Experience the thrill of skating under the lights in the heart of the town. Whether you’re a seasoned skater or a first-time beginner, there’s something for everyone.”

The ice rink and festive stalls will be just a short walk from the town centre and the railway station, providing visitors with beautiful views of the park and a unique seasonal experience.

With a variety of independent shops nearby, including the renowned Hoopers department store and the picturesque Pantiles, attendees can easily make a day of exploring Royal Tunbridge Wells during this festive season. The town’s combination of traditional holiday events and local charm makes it an appealing destination for both residents and visitors alike.
