North East Youth Charity Celebrates 90 Years with Impact Awards
A North East youth charity, NE Youth, marked its remarkable 90th anniversary by hosting the 2025 Impact Awards, an event that celebrated the achievements of local young people and their supporters. Held at The Grand Hotel in Gosforth Park, the ceremony attracted nearly 400 attendees, including young people, volunteers, sponsors, and guests, all coming together to honour the outstanding contributions of individuals and groups dedicated to youth work in the region.
Over the past nine decades, NE Youth has positively impacted the lives of over one million young people. The awards highlighted the efforts of volunteers and staff, making the selection process for winners a challenging task for the judges. Among those recognised was Jannah Rahman Rehman, who received the Volunteer of the Year award for her significant contributions to Projects4Change, an initiative focused on youth-led projects and providing guidance for individuals aged 11 to 19. Reflecting on her achievement, Jannah expressed her gratitude, stating, “I’m still shaking. The award made me realise how much work I’ve done and how important youth work is.”
Additionally, the Youth Worker of the Year award was presented to Thomas Stoneman from Stepney Bank Stables, acknowledging his dedication to empowering local youth. The event featured vibrant performances from talented young individuals, including the MK Diamonds Cheerleaders, Room 14 DofE Band, and musician Jack McQuillan, whose energetic displays captivated the audience.
In addressing the gathering, NE Youth CEO Jon Niblo emphasised the importance of investing in the region’s youth, stating, “The Impact Awards showcase the best of what happens when young people are given opportunities to thrive. Times are tough for a lot of people right now, but we need to continue to invest in our young people. The energy, commitment, and creativity we’ve seen tonight never ceases to amaze me.”
The evening served as a reminder of the potential that exists within the youth of the North East and the crucial role organisations like NE Youth play in fostering that potential.
