Scarlett Moffatt has expressed her overwhelming joy after being announced as the first celebrity contestant for this year’s Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special, a revelation that left her in tears. The announcement came during the November 21, 2023, episode of the spin-off show, It Takes Two, hosted by Janette Manrara.

Emotional Announcement on It Takes Two

While appearing on the panel, Moffatt shared her excitement, saying, “I am officially this year’s first Strictly Christmas special contestant.” Her enthusiasm was palpable, as she added, “Honestly, I’m so excited, I just keep crying all the time.” Moffatt highlighted the significance of this opportunity, stating, “It’s just a dream. Honestly, this is top of my bucket list, which I never thought I was going to be able to do, and now I get to do it!”

The former Gogglebox star expressed the emotional weight of participating in a beloved family tradition. “For me, this has been tradition in my family that we’ll sit down and watch Strictly on Christmas Day. And the fact that my little boy, Jude, gets to then watch his mam is just so exciting,” she remarked.

Ready to Dance with Vito Coppola

Moffatt will partner with professional dancer Vito Coppola for the Christmas special, further fueling her excitement. She previously stated, “Strictly has always held a special place in my heart, so being part of the Christmas Special feels truly magical.” She described the show as a unifying experience for families across the UK, noting, “It’s the show that brings everyone together around the TV, and being part of that is a genuine personal and career highlight.” Moffatt humorously added that she anticipates discovering new muscles through her training.

This year’s Christmas special will feature six couples competing for the title of Strictly Christmas Champion. The event will be hosted by Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman for the last time, with judges Shirley Ballas, Anton Du Beke, Motsi Mabuse, and Craig Revel Horwood critiquing the festive performances.

The official synopsis promises a “winter wonderland full of festive magic,” including dazzling group dances and live music, designed to be the perfect antidote to the post-Christmas dinner slump. As anticipation builds, the next celebrity participant for the 2025 Christmas special will be revealed on November 24 during the Radio 2 Breakfast Show with Scott Mills.
