Toyota Takes Title Sponsorship of Haas F1 Team for 2026 Season
The Haas Formula 1 team will undergo a significant rebranding in the 2026 season, adopting the name TGR Haas F1 Team. This change highlights the deepening partnership with Japanese automaker Toyota, marking a notable shift in Toyota’s involvement in Formula 1 since the company withdrew its team in 2009.
In a statement released on Thursday, Haas confirmed that the new name reflects its ongoing relationship with Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR), the racing division of the Toyota Motor Corporation. The transition to title sponsorship indicates a more substantial commitment from Toyota, which had largely stepped back from the sport after its exit over a decade ago.
The partnership between Haas and Toyota commenced last year, with the Haas car featuring Toyota branding throughout the current season. Although the collaboration focuses on design and technical services, it does not include a Toyota engine; Haas will continue using Ferrari power in 2026. Despite this, the agreement demonstrates Toyota’s increasing engagement in Formula 1.
Ayao Komatsu, team principal of Haas, expressed enthusiasm about the new title partnership. “It’s naturally a privilege to deepen our relationship with TGR through this new title partnership agreement,” he stated.
In addition, Akio Toyoda, chairman of the Toyota Motor Corporation, shared insights about the evolving relationship. “Throughout our challenges in the 2025 season, I witnessed young TGR drivers and engineers begin to believe in their own potential and set their sights on even greater dreams,” Toyoda remarked. He acknowledged his past regrets about Toyota’s exit from F1, noting that he wished to provide young drivers with more opportunities in the sport.
As the 2025 season approaches its conclusion, the final race will take place on November 26, 2025, in Abu Dhabi. Three drivers are in contention for the championship title. Lando Norris of McLaren leads the standings with a 12-point advantage over Max Verstappen of Red Bull, while Oscar Piastri, also from McLaren, trails by 16 points. Norris and Piastri are vying for their first season titles, while Verstappen aims to secure his fifth consecutive championship.
This new chapter for Haas and Toyota not only reflects a strategic partnership but also signals a renewed interest from Toyota in the competitive landscape of Formula 1, potentially setting the stage for future aspirations within the sport.
