Father Tragically Dies After Sand Dune Collapse at Muriwai Beach

A tragic accident unfolded at Muriwai Beach in New Zealand on December 2, 2023, when a sand dune collapsed, burying 28-year-old Kane Watson headfirst in front of his young children. Kane Watson was playing with his 18-month-old daughter and three stepsons when the sand dune gave way. He was trapped for approximately 15 minutes before emergency services managed to extricate him. Despite their efforts, he was later pronounced dead at Auckland City Hospital on December 3, 2023.

Local authorities plan to conduct an investigation on behalf of the coroner to determine the exact cause of the collapse.
