Telford’s Aviramp Secures Major Deals with UK Airports

Aviramp, a manufacturer based in Telford, has recently secured significant contracts with major UK airports, supplying new fully electric, step-free ramps for Aurigny at both Southampton and London Gatwick. This development follows the successful installation of two ramps at Guernsey Airport under a partnership with Guernsey Ports.
The need for improved accessibility is evident, as Aurigny reported that over 6,000 passengers requested additional assistance for flights in the past year. The newly installed ramps are expected to enhance the boarding process, reducing average boarding times by approximately four minutes.
Enhancing Passenger Experience
Graham Corfield, chief executive of Aviramp, visited Guernsey last month to observe the ramps in operation. He expressed enthusiasm about the new contracts, stating that they will enable Aurigny to provide an optimal travel experience for all passengers, particularly those with mobility challenges.
“We are delighted to have continued our successful partnership with Aurigny and to be able to supply ramps which will make life easier, safer, and more dignified for all passengers,” Corfield said. He noted that Aviramp currently has around 850 ramps in use globally, facilitating comfortable and safe boarding for approximately 50 million passengers each year.
The new electric ramps designed by Aviramp utilize solar power, allowing them to operate for an entire day without needing a recharge. This innovation improves turnaround times by requiring just a single operator to manage the equipment safely.
Improving Accessibility in Air Travel
Aviramp’s boarding ramps and bridges are designed specifically for situations where an aircraft is parked at a remote stand. They offer a safe and dignified alternative to traditional stairs and separate ambulifts, catering to wheelchair users and passengers with reduced mobility.
The ramps feature a unique low-angle design with a non-slip surface, enhancing safety for all passengers. This design not only improves passenger safety but also contributes to greater efficiency for airlines, airports, and ground handling services.
Dave Cox, deputy chief operations officer at Aurigny, emphasized the benefits of collaboration with Aviramp and Guernsey Ports. “By working together, we’ve enabled travellers in Guernsey to benefit from smoother, faster, and more dignified boarding experiences. I’m pleased to confirm that many more passengers will soon benefit from this technology,” he stated.
Aaron Carpenter, Communications Officer for Guernsey Ports, added, “We are proud to support our airlines at Guernsey Airport, including Aurigny, to offer these new Aviramps which are making a real difference to all our travellers.”
As the aviation industry continues to address accessibility challenges, the introduction of these innovative ramps represents a significant step forward in enhancing the travel experience for passengers with mobility issues.
