Olympus Global Begins Construction on £2.7m Facility in North East
Olympus Global, a growing engineering firm, has officially commenced construction on its new £2.7 million facility in the North East of England. The company aims to establish a state-of-the-art warehouse distribution center in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, which will cater to the industrial and automotive sectors, as well as broader supply chains.
The project represents a significant investment in the region, with plans submitted earlier this year detailing the transformation of brownfield land at Aycliffe Business Park into a modern 16,000 square foot warehouse equipped with office space. Construction is set to begin on October 6, 2023, following the announcement made at the North East Automotive Alliance (NEAA) event, an annual expo in Sunderland that brings together key players from the automotive supply chain.
Strategic Investment to Boost Local Economy
This facility will mark Olympus Global’s second warehouse distribution site in the UK, with its first located outside the North East. The new site is expected to directly support industrial and automotive companies in northern England and Scotland. It will serve existing international clients, including Unipres, Thorn Lighting, and Gestamp Tallent, which is located nearby. The facility is projected to handle more than £7 million worth of parts and engineering components in its first year of operation.
The development is also anticipated to create up to 10 new jobs, contributing to the local economy and providing valuable employment opportunities. Ryan Doyle, director at Building Design Northern (BDN), the architectural and engineering firm behind the project, expressed enthusiasm for the initiative. “Being able to announce the start of construction onsite is fantastic,” he said. “We have worked closely with Olympus Global right from the start across all requirements to support this major scheme.”
Commitment to Sustainability and Innovation
BDN has appointed Hall Construction as the principal contractor for the project, which will incorporate environmentally friendly features in alignment with Olympus Global’s commitment to carbon reduction and sustainability. Keith Rice, managing director at Olympus Global, emphasized the significance of the new facility. “We are delighted to be breaking ground at Newton Aycliffe as it is a key strategic site for the company, and one which marks a new chapter in our 50-plus year history,” Rice stated.
He further highlighted the advantages of the North East and County Durham as a prime location for the facility, noting its direct access to major transport routes and proximity to major industry players. “Our clients are fast-paced organizations that require the highest level of turnaround, dispatch, and efficiency, so we’re delighted to be starting construction and making our mark here in the region,” he added.
As construction progresses, Olympus Global’s new facility is poised to enhance the capabilities of the local automotive supply chain while also reinforcing the company’s position in the market. The development of this multimillion-pound warehouse not only signifies investment in infrastructure but also a commitment to job creation and sustainable practices in the North East.
